DEEP DIVE
48 companies, choosing to build
48. That is how many companies in our detection window showed a 'build vs buy hire' signal, meaning they were staffing up to build something in-house rather than paying someone for it. It came out of our own outreach records over the last 90 days, alongside 32 companies showing a hiring spree and 215 LinkedIn connection requests accepted. I expected build vs buy to be a rounding error. Most contractors I speak to say they have no appetite to build software, that they want to buy and move on. 48 says a chunk of them are hiring engineers and analysts to do it themselves anyway. One ops head in Sharjah put it flatly last month, 'we already pay three people to move data between spreadsheets, so why not just build the thing.' That logic holds until the person who built it leaves. What we now do is track that signal early and reach those firms before the first hire lands. The number does not prove those builds succeed, or that they ship, or that anyone regrets buying instead. Read source → | Related on our blog → |
Where the Gulf work is right now
Oman's job boards tell a quieter story than the tender pages. Naukrigulf lists 974 open roles in Oman as of October, and Indeed counts 800-plus, with business development and GCC-focused roles showing up more than site trades. That gap matters for anyone bidding Gulf work. Contractors are staffing sales and BD ahead of execution teams, which usually means they expect a pipeline to open, not that it already has. If you are chasing Oman contracts, the hiring pattern gives you a rough read on who is gearing up. Watch which firms post BD roles first. Those are the ones planning to bid the next wave, and they will need estimators and procurement staff within a quarter.

QUICK TAKES
- Maharashtra PWD road package (est. ₹1,240 Cr, submission Nov 2026), Gujarat urban water supply upgrade (est. ₹680 Cr), Oman OPWP transmission works (est. OMR 45M, RFP open), UAE Sharjah housing infra (est. AED 320M), Rajasthan solar park civil works (est. ₹910 Cr), Muscat facilities management renewal (est. OMR 12M). Likely bidders include L&T, Galfar, and regional MEP firms.
- CNBC's experts warn the September surge could reverse into an October offload if the Fed shifts rates. Contractors staffing on optimism now should keep offers reversible.
- Indeed reports 60% of occupational groups now showing demand growth, with posting activity up 1.5% month on month. Broad demand tends to pull skilled site labour prices up before it hits the headlines.

CESMM3 BOQ prep without the manual grind
That ops head who wanted to build in-house was really trying to solve one thing, the hours lost moving BOQ data by hand. A well-structured CESMM3 Bill of Quantities cuts that, and getting the core components right the first time avoids the compliance and pricing errors that show up at award. JobNext handles BOQ preparation, margin tracking, and procurement in one place, so estimators stop rebuilding the same sheets across projects. No engineer to hire, no custom tool to maintain when they leave.
