48 firms hiring in-house before they buy

48 companies, choosing to build

48. That is how many companies in our detection window showed a 'build vs buy hire' signal, meaning they were staffing up to build something in-house rather than paying someone for it. It came out of our own outreach records over the last 90 days, alongside 32 companies showing a hiring spree and 215 LinkedIn connection requests accepted. I expected build vs buy to be a rounding error. Most contractors I speak to say they have no appetite to build software, that they want to buy and move on. 48 says a chunk of them are hiring engineers and analysts to do it themselves anyway. One ops head in Sharjah put it flatly last month, 'we already pay three people to move data between spreadsheets, so why not just build the thing.' That logic holds until the person who built it leaves. What we now do is track that signal early and reach those firms before the first hire lands. The number does not prove those builds succeed, or that they ship, or that anyone regrets buying instead.

Where the Gulf work is right now

Oman's job boards tell a quieter story than the tender pages. Naukrigulf lists 974 open roles in Oman as of October, and Indeed counts 800-plus, with business development and GCC-focused roles showing up more than site trades. That gap matters for anyone bidding Gulf work. Contractors are staffing sales and BD ahead of execution teams, which usually means they expect a pipeline to open, not that it already has. If you are chasing Oman contracts, the hiring pattern gives you a rough read on who is gearing up. Watch which firms post BD roles first. Those are the ones planning to bid the next wave, and they will need estimators and procurement staff within a quarter.
